Depression is a common problem in my practice and one that I take seriously. It is a normal part of life which is why it is so widespread and may be a way of breaking down old psychic structures in order to make new connections. It is common when loss and major change occur. We may use CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), which focuses on thoughts and feelings, to generate strategies in order to cope and manage everyday life. However many people want more than this. Understanding how depression has come about and what it means, which will be different for each person, can bring great relief.
